Benefits of Receiving Dental Implants

Patients are usually very happy with their results after dental implant treatments at All County Oral Surgery. If you are healthy enough to undergo minor dental procedures, dental implants can replace your missing teeth while also preserving your oral health, smile, and confidence. Some of the benefits of having dental implants placed include:

  • • The potential for lifelong tooth replacements (unlike dentures and bridges, which must be replaced after years of wear)

  • • Beautiful, natural-looking replacement teeth

  • • Preservation of healthy bone beneath the teeth (which can resorb over time when tooth replacements do not extend beneath the gums)

  • • A simple care routine — just brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits — like caring for natural teeth

Receiving Dental Implants

The dental implant procedure usually requires a total of at least two or three office visits, depending on the type of implants you plan on getting and the number of implants necessary. The first appointment is a consultation and oral exam, during which your surgeon will review your health condition and treatment options to start forming your treatment plan. An X-ray may be recommended to help your All County Oral Surgeon to plan your procedure. During this consultation, you will have a chance to ask questions and discuss anesthesia options before your procedure.

Once your treatment plan is determined, you will set a return date for your procedure. The entire surgery typically lasts between one and three hours, depending on how many implants you receive. After administering the appropriate anesthesia, your All County Oral Surgeon will lift the gum tissue and place the implant(s) into the bone beneath. The titanium posts integrate with the jaw bone while you heal, creating a firm and secure foundation for your replacement teeth.

Recovery is different for everyone, but most people feel ready to return to their normal routines within a few days. The implant site will need time to heal, so it’s important not to chew anything tough around where your implant was placed for a while. Your All County Oral Surgeon will give you a full explanation of your pre- and post-operative instructions to help you prepare for the best possible recovery.
