So you know what to expect, we’ve compiled a list of the do’s and don’ts of oral surgery care for after surgery.

Do’s: One of the most important things to remember during your post-operative recovery period is to keep your mouth and the area around it clean. Eat soft foods, avoid straws to minimize irritation and keep the area clean. If you’re having difficulty eating, try using an oral syringe to rinse away food particles and loosen them up a bit. Additionally, you should take pain medication only as directed by your All County Oral Surgeon to help manage any discomfort you may be feeling.

Don’ts: There are a few things you should avoid during your post-operative recovery as well. Do not smoke or use any type of tobacco products during this time as this could cause complications. Also, do not brush or use any type of mouthwash with alcohol as this can irritate the area and impede healing. In addition to this, avoid drinking through a straw for at least two weeks after surgery as this could cause minor bleeding and infection. Furthermore, try to avoid any type of strenuous activities or exercise for at least 48 hours after the procedure.

We know that oral surgery can be overwhelming and it is important to follow all instructions given by your doctor to ensure a successful outcome and speedy recovery.
